Malia has something to tell you...

She is going to be a big sister!

We are pregnant - due the first week of November. We are very excited about our family growing and are pretty confident that Malia is going to be a great big sister.

I have officially finished my first trimester which we are really grateful for especially because we had a scare early on in the pregnancy. It has been a rough go again for me with lots of nausea and tiredness but I think I am slowly coming out of it and am hopeful it will end in the next few weeks like it did with Malia.

For now we are calling our baby Scout. We didn't have a nickname when we were pregnant with Malia but Andrew's brother Erik and his wife Kendal are also pregnant and they have a nickname for their baby (Nubbins) so we felt as if we should too.

We are anxious to find out if it is a boy or a girl (in 6 more weeks!). Right now our bets are on another girl because this pregnancy has been so similar to my first so far. I guess only time will tell and we will be sure to pass along the word when we know.

It took a whole morning of taking pictures to get one where she was close to smiling and her shirt was showing so you could read it - here are some of the "outtakes".

Cleaning the Car

Malia often eats snacks in the car. When I started doing this I vowed to vacuum the car out regularly. Well it had been awhile but the other day she dumped a big bag of goldfish and that put me over the edge.

So I vacuumed while Malia helped Andrew do some yard work. But then it was my turn to watch her and I wasn't quite done. So I put her in the passenger seat with a cloth so she could clean hoping that would keep her content while I finished. It kept her more than content. She loved sitting up there and cried when I took her out! I don't know where this love for cleaning came from but hey I will take it.

Malia can be an interesting eater. Some days she will eat something (carrots, pears, etc.) without stopping to breath and other days you can't get her to touch it.

One thing we have discovered she loves to do is dip food into a sauce or dip. The other night we were having pasta and garlic bread - things she would normally not eat - but we gave her a little dish with spaghetti sauce in it and all sudden, she couldn't get enough.

I couldn't decide which picture to post so sorry for the abundance - each one in the series makes me laugh but maybe none as much as the last.

I think she is in love!

Also, it should be noted that the reason she is in her pjs at dinner is because it was the day we were "snowed in" and so we never quite made it out of our pjs. After the self-feeding though, Malia did earn herself a clean pair of pjs.

Spring Snow

On Friday the temperature dropped here and it started raining. By Saturday morning we had a little snow on the ground and by Saturday afternoon we had close to a foot. It was beautiful to watch coming done and great because we just stayed in and worked on a few things around the house.

We considered ourselves "snowed in" until we ran out of paint for the hallway we were painting (as you can see we were so close to finishing). Andrew decided to try and make a run to Home Depot. I wasn't keeping track of time but it took at least an hour for him to shovel out enough of our driveway and then to get out of our cul-de-sac which had not been plowed at all (he only did this thanks to 2 neighbors who helped push the car). Once he did that it took no time to get to Home Depot because they do actually plow other roads.

He returned and we were able to finish painting. So fun to have another project completed and to know that by midweek the temperature will be in the 70s!

Happy Easter

Happy Easter!

We had a great weekend. Yesterday our neighborhood Easter egg hunt got rained out so we went to Emmie and Pops for our own hunt inside. Once Malia caught onto finding the "hidden" eggs, she really enjoyed the game.

And here are some pictures of today.

Sharing one of her pacifiers with her dad.

After a lot of attempts, we finally came up with a decent family photo.

Looking for a hidden Easter egg? Not sure - I wasn't around when this picture was taken but it made me laugh.

Baby Dolls and Purses

These are definitely 2 of Malia's favorite things this week. She has loved emptying my purse for several months but she has recently made the transition to carrying around her own purse and emptying it (which I prefer greatly!)

I bought the baby doll as a gift for our neighbor who is celebrating her first birthday this weekend. I made the mistake of showing it to Malia when I got home from the store and she quickly became attached to it and within minutes had put it in her mouth enough that I didn't think it was right to give it as a gift anymore. So we took off the tags and declared it Malia's and she could not be happier.

Changing baby's diaper before she ate her own breakfast - so responsible!

I think she might be cleaning out the baby's ears?!?

And of course like any good mommy, biting the baby's head.

The Bird Feeder

The second Christmas I was a Wolgemuth, Andrew's dad got me a really nice bird feeder. We had it on our apartment deck in Kansas City, then it moved to our yard in Orlando and last weekend it was placed outside of our kitchen window in Denver.

Malia has loved watching the birds come and eat. She goes to the window (which she can see out of on her tip toes) and talks to them.

I am told by my husband, who knows a lot more about birds species than I do, that most of our visitors are purple finches.

Tip toes

Two more notes regarding the bird feeder:

1. Thank you Dad Wolgs who was brave enough to go to our old house in Orlando and ask the new owners if you could take the bird feeder which we forgot in the front yard. I would be bummed to not have the original.

2. And yes Andrew, your idea to put it up outside the kitchen window was brilliant!
