The B-I-B-L-E

One of Malia's favorite activities these days is to flip through a children's Bible looking for babies (she made this up all by herself). If you sit and look through it with her, you can get her to point out other things too like:

- "pools" (any body of water)
- boats
- "Nono" (Noah)
- animals
- she will say "hot" if she sees a fire
- on the picture where David is slaying Goliath and Goliath is falling she says "crash"

It's very funny and amazing that she can flip through it over and over and over without losing interest or her fervency for finding those babies.

Here she is last week after her bath looking away.

The other night we went over to visit our nephew/cousin Graham and his parents. I was finally able to hold the little guy (over my cold) and it was so fun - it brought back so many memories of when Malia was first born.

Being around Graham is so great for Malia (and for us to observe) as we are less than 6 weeks away from adding our own baby to the family. Thanks for being our guinea pig Graham!

He is cute even when he cries!

Graham Marc Part 2

I realized this morning that Andrew's dad had sent us some pictures in an email yesterday of Graham so I am copying them over to the blog.

Graham, Kendal and Erik - just hours after he was born - amazing!

Graham. This brings back so many memories of having Malia. She slept all day and was so peaceful when we were at the hospital and had visitors holding her. It wasn't until everyone left and night time came that she decided it was time to be awake and unhappy. Hopefully Graham isn't like Malia and he was peaceful all last night.

Oh this photo cracks me up. Half of the people in it look normal (Andrew and Graham). And then you have Malia, with her unruly hair (yes we have gone back to nothing in her hair - argh!) squirming out of my arms and me, being 34 weeks pregnant, trying to hold my 25 pound squirming daughter and smiling like it is normal.

Graham Marc

Today Andrew and I became an uncle and aunt for the first time. Andrew's brother Erik and his wife Kendal had sweet little Graham Marc Wolgemuth this morning.

We were able to visit them in the hospital this afternoon but I have no pictures to share - you see Malia and I have both been battling a cold for a week now and are finally getting over it. I felt like we were well enough to go see the baby but not to touch the baby. I was so busy trying to make sure we weren't spreading any germs while we were there that I failed to even snap one shot.

Thankfully they live just a few miles away and Malia and I are definitely on our way to recovery - I just can't wait to hold that little guy!

Here is a picture of Malia from earlier this week - notice she is holding a handkerchief - she had just taken it off the counter and blown her own nose! She has been such a champ with this cold. She has slept through the night all week without even a peep despite being congested. Her mother on the other hand has not been sleeping well - I just think it should be illegal to be pregnant and have a cold!

I got this alphabet magnet set at a garage sale last week and it has been a big hit. Amazingly it has convince Malia that her dinosaur magnets are cool too (I got them awhile ago and she wasn't really into them).

The best part about the alphabet set is the button that plays the ABC song. Malia will often sing along or dance to it (of course she will never do this while we are trying to video tape her though!). It has provided a lot of smiles for her dad and I - wish we could share it with you.

Vocabulary Explosion

Malia's vocab has exploded in the last several weeks. Each day some new word or words come out of her mouth.

My 2 current favorites are:
Crash: Whenever she falls or sees anything fall.
Go: She says this before she starts running.

She is beginning to string 2 words together although it still doesn't happen very much. Tonight we were outside and she definitely said "I poop". Sure enough she had pooped. Now we just need to work on her telling us that she has to go poop before she actually does it - I think we are still a little ways away from potty training but it was an encouraging and funny step tonight.

We are trying to video some of her new vocab - hopefully a video will be posted in the next few days.

Face Paint

The last night we were in Ohio, we were with my cousin's family. Karen, who is the mother of Jason (6) and Kristen (2 1/2), is a very fun and creative mom. She came equipped with face paint for the kids and they loved it.

The girls were puppies - unfortunately it is hard to get them both to look at the camera.

Jason as you can see was Batman. This picture was taken while he was beating Andrew in Tetris.

Hair Breakthrough

In the last week or so, Malia has actually allowed a clip to stay in her hair for more than 30 seconds. Amazing but true. And thrilling to her mother who was getting concerned that she was going to have to cut her sweet daughter's unruly hair.

One day she even allowed my mom to put her hair up in a ponytail. It lasted all morning and up until her nap that day!
By the way we are really enjoying our time with my parents. We have done some cool stuff - went apple picking at an orchard nearby and went to the wedding of Alaina, my friend from high school - but didn't take any pictures of either event. Oh well.

More Chick-fil-A Freebies

On Labor Day, Chick-fil-A gave you a free chicken sandwich if you wore any team apparel. Of course, we were there.

Malia has a Champ Bailey jersey which she wore proudly in the heart of Bengals country despite the Broncos tough match up on Sunday.

And my dad actually gave the great establishment a few bucks for a milkshake which he generously shared with Malia.
