The rest of St. Louis

I was not very good at taking pictures while we were in St. Louis. Here are a few though.

Malia picking tomatoes with Aunt Beth. They had a ridiculously wonderful amount of tomatoes!

The harvest plus the zuchinnis that we brought from our garden.

Malia in Beth's shoes.

Malia in the "corn field" in Beth and Keith's backyard. The corn was ready before we got there so we didn't get any but we did eat the soy beans that were also grown in this spot.

Beth and Davey, despite having parents with brown eyes and dark hair, both got the blue eyes and blond hair.

Malia being a human foosball player thanks to Uncle Keith.

The girls with my parents. I love Malia's face in the first one - she's telling Davey to smile.

Family Triathlon

Last weekend we were in St. Louis for my families first relay triathlon. My sister, Beth, came up with the idea sometime last winter - it was her attempt to get us all in shape! We had a boys team...

Keith (swimmer), Roger/Dad (biker), Andrew (runner)

And a girls team...
Chrissy (biker), Beth (runner), Barb/Mom (swimmer)

Sitting in what little shade we could find to cheer Beth on (our starts were staggered so the boys were already done by the time I handed off to her for the final leg).

The whole crew, post-race.

It was a fun morning. I am really glad that Beth came up with the idea and inspired us to get active. I highly recommend doing a relay triathlon with friends and/or family but I do not recommend doing it in St. Louis, in July - it was hot and humid!

A special thanks to my Uncle Steve and Aunt Sally who came to cheer us on and to take pictures and to Keith's parents, Marty and Cindi who watched our girls so we didn't have to wake them up at 5 a.m.

Oh yeah and you are probably wondering who won. The boys edged us out by 23 seconds! We expected to be within 5 to 10 minutes of each other but were all shocked that it was so close. I think it means we need to have a rematch next year!

A/C Update

Good news - our A/C is finally fixed!

I will miss my naked babies... although I am sure that even with A/C they will be happy to go around without clothes on.

Baby Bunnies

The day we left for St. Louis, I went out in the garden and found a baby bunny. Andrew caught it, released it and soon it was back in the garden, so he caught it again and released it.

When Andrew's parents stopped by to water while we were gone, they caught the bunny and humanely relocated it far from our house. Hooray, no more bunnies. Or so we thought.

We come home from St. Louis to find three baby bunnies in the garden. All three were captured and again humanely relocated. Now we are starting to wonder how many bunnies there could be?

Alli's Baby Shower

On Sunday, we threw a baby shower for Alli who is due in just a few weeks now! It was great fun.

The party planning committee with the momma-to-be.

With the babe in the belly, there are 4 generations in this picture (Andrew/Alli's grandma came in from Michigan for the shower).

Me and my baby.

For those of you who are planning a baby shower, I will throw out 2 things that worked well for us. We can't take credit for either because they were things that we were heard about or had seen done at other showers.

First, we asked people to bring a favorite childrens book (instead of a card) and to write a message inside to the baby/mommy.

Second was one of our games/activities. We had fabric pens and onesies and asked each guest to design one for the baby. It was fun to see what people came up with and then we had Alli guess who made which one. She actually guessed almost all of them right - I guess she knows her friends well!

Strawberry Blond

Davey. She is full of surprises. Not only have her eyes stayed blue and her hair light but in certain light her hair can look strawberry blond. Haven't figured out exactly where that recessive gene came from but we think it is pretty darn cute!

I know you can hardly see her hair in this last picture, but I love her face.

No AC

Earlier this month, we tried to turn on our AC for the first time this summer (gotta love Colorado summers), and the air blowing out wasn't that cold.

Andrew and I have a history of broken AC units (ours in Florida went out several times, always when we had a house full of people who ended up sweating all night!). We've had 2 different repair men out and the second thinks he knows what is wrong but he had to order the $2,200 part (thankfully it is under warranty) and we haven't even heard when it might be in.

So we have been living with no AC and this last week, temperatures have been pretty steady in the mid-to-high 90s. While it is not ideal, it actually hasn't been too bad. The worst hours are from 4-7 p.m. when the sun hits the back of our house really hard - needless to say I have not been motivated to cook and add more heat to the mix at that time of day.

This week we have gone to the pool at night to cool off, run errands to spend time in air conditioning, and letting the girls spend a lot of time running around in their diapers.

It looks like we won't have it fixed before we go out of town this week so we could go the whole month of July without AC!

Here are a few pool pictures. We discovered that if we put Davey in the crab raft, she can walk around the baby pool - it is kind of funny to watch her. And Malia doesn't mind that her crab has been passed on because she now has a Nemo float.

Davey - 8 months

Davey is officially 8 months old now!

While each month during this first year feels like a milestone of sorts because babies change so much, this one is especially interesting for us because Malia was 8 months old when we moved to Colorado - it is weird to think she was both this old and this young when we packed up and left Florida.

Davey is a joy. I cannot believe how much she has changed even in these past few weeks. She went from relatively immobile girl to a squirming, creeping, climbing girl. Earlier this week I went to get her from a nap and she was standing in her crib, had thrown all of her pacifiers out and was not happy!

She loves pears and prunes. Those are the two foods I know she we eat. Everything else is hit or miss.

I am really trying to keep her nursing but she is often distracted by her sister, or impatient and has an insatiable thirst (seriously she would drink water all day if I let her) so she has been getting a bottle or two a day for the last couple of weeks (which she loves).

She is a momma's girl right now. If I am in the room, she wants to be in my arms or by my side.

She loves Malia. Malia can get her to smile like no one else can. It is sweet to see the start of their friendship.

She likes swinging, the pool and dogs but isn't sure about bike rides in the Burley yet.

She has a killer smile. Unfortunately I could not get a new picture of her smiling... I will keep working on that.

Cow Appreciation Day

This was our third year participating in the Chick-fil-A Cow Appreciation Day. For those of you not familiar with it, if you dress up like a cow on a specified day (usually in July), you get free food. Since we love Chick-fil-a and we love free food, it is a great day in our household!

Our cow family.

We met our fellow cows, Erik, Kendal and Graham there!

The calves. Not cooperating for the picture but cute nonetheless.

First year calves, Davey...

... and Graham.

Family Picture

Family pictures used to be few and far between but in the last few months I feel like we are on a roll. Here is one of us on the 4th.

The Girls

We are enjoying the three day weekend here, especially since we are all healthy!

Here are a few pictures of the girls I have taken over the last few days. No real story, just some times that I snapped a few shots.
