Ballet Class

Malia completed her first session of ballet on Saturday.  While she seemed to like it, I am not sure if we have more dance in our future or not.  I guess only time will tell.

This picture pretty much sums up how Davey feels about getting her picture taken these days. Not really interested.  It should also be noted that I had to borrow a ballet outfit from my neighbor so that Davey could go dressed as a ballerina to Malia's class, otherwise we had colossal meltdowns because she wanted to be wearing the pink dress.  Gotta love two year olds!

Ballerina Malia

Malia got to take the class with her friend R whose little sister L was in the class before ours.
Here are the four ballerinas together.

Certified...

Earlier this week, Andrew and I signed a contract with the county with which means we are now officially certified foster parents!  This has been a long time coming and the last few months of delay and waiting have been trying, but we still feel confident in God's timing.

We are supposed to be contacted by a social worker soon to start talking about a placement.  I assume this would happen sometime this upcoming week but as we have learned in this process, things do not always happen on our timeline.

I wish I had more details.  I just wanted everyone to know that we are still (slowly) moving forward in this process.

Pray for us as we are assigned a caseworker and work towards an actual placement.  Pray for the child who will enter our home.  Pray for our girls as they adjust and as we have to explain a difficult situation (the other day, Malia asked what we were going to name the baby and I had to try and explain why the baby will already have a name.)  Pray for wisdom and strength for Andrew and I.

Thanks to everyone who has joined us on this journey.

M Activities, Part 2

Here is the rest of M.  I told you we did a lot!

We did an M&M graph (as well as some M&M patterns and eating!)

 Marshmallow sculptures with toothpicks.

 Glued marshmallows on an M

 And painted with marshmallows too!

 Pom pom magnet sheet

I gave her a bunch of magnets (some on popsicle sticks, some just circles)
and this is what she created on the fridge.

Monkey stickers.  I was surprised that she recognized "one" and "four"
(the others I helped her sound out.)

Drawing with markers on a mirror.

And exploring maps.

I also tried to introduce money to her.  I showed her all of the bills and coins.  She was not really interested and couldn't remember any of the names of the coins.  The one thing that she really took to was learning heads and tails which for some reason kind of tickled me.

M Activities, Part 1

M is such a fun letter.  Especially for one little girl whose name starts with M.  I think we have been on M for about 2 weeks now.  There is just so much fun stuff to explore.

 We started with some math.

 We did marble painting.

 Balanced marbles on tees.

Busted out one of the few childhood toys I still have... Marbleworks.

Had fun with this Mix and Match animal sticker book.

 Investigated magnetic vs. non-magnetic

Made a monster from play dough and googlie-eyes.

Colored a monkey.

And that is just the beginning of M!

Morning with Davey

The girls have been in the same room for 2 1/2 months now.  It has worked surprisingly well.  The only problem is Davey usually wakes Malia up in the morning.

One morning last week, we managed to sneak Davey out of there before she woke Malia up.  Malia slept an additional hour plus (which she needed).  During that time, I had some sweet play time with Davey.

She was patient and deliberate about putting the wooden circles in this connect 4 type game.  Fun to see her concentration.

Last week the girls both got their fingernails painted for the first time.  I am pretty sure this picture was on the second day of polish... somehow Davey managed to get rid of half of the polish in a day.

We also sorted our animal counters by color and then by animal.

Glimpses of spring

We got a few days of spring here earlier this week (and more to come next week).  The girls and I walked up to the playground one day to take advantage of the weather.

Craft foam bath fun

Over the weekend I gave the girls a bath (Andrew normally does this but I was trying to give him some alone time since I slept in until almost 10 that morning!)  I had seen a fun idea here - cutting craft foam into shapes, dipping it into water and stinking in on the wall. Simple, cheap, entertaining.

It was a huge hit.  They were in there until they were very pruned.  And I barely scratched the surface of possible things we could create together.

L Activities

L was a fun week.

Malia painted a ladybug rock family.

 We did rainbow letters.

I had her alphabetize upper and lowercase letters. We discovered a pattern in the letters and then used it to predict what color the next letter would be.

She made a lion painting.

She washed some laundry and hung it up to dry.

But my favorite part of the week might have been the use of our light table.  I had been wanting to make one for awhile but was not willing to put much money into it.  Then I came across a post (somewhere on the wonderful internet) that used things I already had (a clear tub, Christmas lights and wax paper).
The first night we just put jewels on it and the girls explored.

The second night we had pink sand on trays that the girls could draw in.

And the third night (when Malia asked if we could play with it again -- music to my ears) we put the gel beads on it.
