2 Months

Today Naomi is 2 months old.  It is hard to believe.

She is doing really well.  Last Thursday, she passed a breathing test and was able to come off of her oxygen.  And yesterday at the doctor she weighed in at 8 lbs, 8 ounces which is exactly double her birth weight!  The nicu days seem like a long time ago. We are grateful.

Our girls have adjusted well to having Naomi in our family.  It has definitely been a little harder for Davey not to be the baby of the family but that was to be expected and she is handling it better.  And we have been shocked at how much they understand the circumstances, especially Malia.  Over the weekend, Malia explained to some of her friends that Naomi was our foster baby and that if her birth parents came back, then they could get her but if not then we can adopt her.  Not exactly what you expect to hear a 4.5 year old talking about with her friends :)

We feel really blessed to have Naomi in our home.  She has taught us a lot about ourselves, about love, and about God already in her short life.  Happy 2 months sweet girl!

G's 3rd Birthday Party

Today is Graham's 3rd Birthday.  Over the weekend we were able to celebrate at his truck party.

Kendal made dirt cake which all of the kids loved... here are the dirty mouths that prove it.

Davey wouldn't look at the camera (big surprise) and was feasting on Rody's ear.

Erik and Kendal have a pet spider that lives in their garden that provided some entertainment for us too.

Happy Birthday G.  We sure love you!

Playground

Last Sunday, our big outing of the day was up to the nearby school playground with my camera in tow.

The girls stole our hats (read, we hadn't showered that day and were covering up bad hairdos on our big outing) and they were so cute wearing them around that I though I would get this great shot of them together.  Easier said than done (but cute nonetheless)!

Play dough people

Play dough has made a big comeback at our house in the last couple of weeks.  One afternoon I gave the girls googly eyes, cut up straws, toothpicks and beads along with the play dough (idea found here).  Davey played for a bit, then lost interest.  But Malia played for a long time and ended up making 16 "people".  Here they are.

I especially love this last tray because she added beads on the bottom as flowers and beads on the top as rain.  I love her creativity and imagination.

Another day we got some slime and put the googly eyes in it.  Here is Davey, who still does not like her picture taken.  I love her expression of avoidance!

Gum

Lots to post on.

Earlier this week, Malia had a friend over to play.  That night she asked me when she was going to get to chew gum... apparently her friend started chewing when she was 3!  I told her that she could try it the next night on her way home from church with Andrew (she is doing a Wednesday night program at our church and Andrew is volunteering while I stay home with the other 2).

She came home that night with gum in mouth.  I asked to see it and noticed it looked curiously unchewed.  Upon further investigation we found out that she had just been sucking on it.  I told her she could chew it and she asked me "what does chewing it mean?"  I had to laugh.  I think she only associated chewing with eating where the food breaks down in your mouth and she didn't want the gum to go away so she wasn't going to chew it!  I had to explain that you can chew gum and it won't disappear.  Too funny.

Sunflowers and Sweet Feet

One of the most fun things we grew in our garden this year was sunflowers.  They were big and beautiful.  Here the girls are holding one of our big ones.  I had to post two pictures because the girls both look good in one and goofy in the other.  Ah sunflowers...

... and soft feet.  Naomi has that sweet, soft infant skin.  I kind of forgot how lovely it is.  I particularly love her soft feet.  One thing the doctors recommended for her is massage so I get to rub these sweet feet at least once a day.

At the doctor last week, she weighed in at 6 lbs, 12 ounces meaning she gained one pound in two weeks (which is apparently really good for a baby her size).  She did not test high enough on her oxygenation levels so she is on oxygen still until at least next week when they will test her again.

------------

Happy Birthday to Chris and my mom today.  My parents were out to visit last weekend and my sweet mom covered all of Naomi's night feeds while here so I could get some much needed sleep since I have been battling a pretty bad cold.  So grateful.

Big Shoes

Having three kids equals not much time for blogging for me.  Gonna try and keep them coming though.

Here are some pictures of the girls wearing Andrew and I's shoes.  They have done it dozens of time but it still makes me smile.

Peaches for you, peaches for me

A couple of weekends ago, Andrew had to clear the peaches off of our tree because the birds had discovered them.  Luckily, they were ripe, ready to eat and oh so yummy.

Malia does not like peaches (or anything except for bread, cheese, orange yogurt and sweets!), but Davey loves peaches and ate lots of them.

P.S. Davey's hairdo is referred to as "silly pigtails" around here.  I was feeling the Princess Leia vibe one day while doing her hair and now she occasionally asks for it.
