The Nutcracker

Part of Davey's birthday present from her Emmie and Pops was tickets to the Nutcracker. A couple of weekends ago, Emmie took both Davey and Malia. They loved it and Davey came home saying "It just makes me want to dance."

Christmas Picture Outtakes

I love taking pictures. But I have stopped trying to take pictures of my 3 darling daughters together. It just stresses me out :)

Here are some of the outtakes of my last attempt (all of the pictures I took are actually outtakes but these are the best!)

New seat

Naomi is constantly finding new things to sit or stand on. Recently it was the side of the doll house.

 Busy playing away.

Delighted with herself.

D is for Deserts, Dimes and Dinosaurs

D week featured studying the desert, dimes and dinosaurs.

We read the desert portion of this great book.

Playing with desert Toob animals in sand.

Sorting desert animal 3-part cards and matched any coordinating animals figures that we had.

We used box tops (that we are saving for her school) to talk about dimes/10 cents.

Digging for dinosaur bones.

Matching dinosaur bones and magnets with dinosaur cards.

 Dinosaur books.

And this one was really fun... I think we may be reading more Magic Tree House books soon.

This face

Last week someone made a comment about how last year we couldn't show pictures of Naomi. It kind of blew my mind to think back to how different things were a year ago...

We are blessed by this little girl. She is a ham and it makes me laugh to take pictures of her. Here are a bunch I took recently.

This is her in route to try and get the camera from me.

She is not really walking yet, but has starting taking steps here and there and enjoys standing up.

Cousin Fun

Two weekends ago we went up to the mountains to cut down our Christmas tree. We were joined by Andrew's whole family which means all 7 of the cousins were together.

3 cousins on a sled. They have fun grandparents :)

Why not try 4 cousins on a sled?

5 of the 7. (In Davey and Desmond's defense, I think someone was telling them to stick out their tongues.)

 Cousin love.

7 of 7 in their matching Christmas PJs.

The 2 youngest. I don't think this picture quite captures the size difference but it is hysterical how much difference a year makes.

Hard to believe that next year, this cutie will be running around with his cousins.

Malia's Party

We celebrated Malia's birthday with her friends last weekend. It was a Snowman Party.

Snowman cake and pin the carrot on the snowman.

Davey showing off her snowman picture and her fake smile.

 12 girls crafting.

11 girls huddled closely to the birthday girl as she opened gifts.

Can't believe she is almost 6. Enjoying the last day with my 5 year old...

10 Years

While in St. Louis for Thanksgiving, Andrew and I hit the 10 year mark of marriage. Unfortunately I spent most of this momentous day in bed recovering from a stomach bug. But last week we were able to celebrate with dinner and a movie out.

It has been a wonderful 10 years. I feel so blessed to call Andrew my husband. He really is my best friend. He is an engaged, fun and thoughtful dad. He is a dedicated and diligent provider. He makes me laugh. Doing life side by side with him sharpens me and encourages me. I am so grateful.

Malia took our picture before we went out... and then Davey wanted to join.

Little House on the Prairie

I have been wanting to read The Little House on the Prairie series with Malia for awhile. We started reading Little House in the Big Woods about mid-to-late September and finished The First Four Years last Thursday. That means in about 2 1/2 months we read all 9 books, which is 2,638 pages!

It was such a special time with Malia as we read from these books almost daily (and Davey would occasionally listen too.) I love these books and was as excited to read them as she was. Especially in the last 2 or 3 weeks, we would often skip doing any sort of schoolwork and just read and read and read. Laura, Mary, Carrie, Almanzo, Ma and Pa feel like family and we reference them often :)

I am only sad there isn't more to read, but look forward to finding a new series to dive into soon.

Thanksgiving Learning

Malia spent most of November learning about Thanksgiving at Options. They spent several weeks learning songs for a performance which took place right before Thanksgiving.

Malia sang loud and confidently during the performance and had a great time. I have it all on video if you ever want to watch it :)

I got some fun Thanksgiving books to read and also a Pilgrim trivia game from Lakeshore Learning. Squanto is an excellent book - I highly recommend it.

C is for Cow

C week was a little weak because I was distracted by Thanksgiving. We talked how milk comes from a cow and what things are made with milk.

We had a little messy fun "painting" with pudding (main ingredient is milk).

We also made butter by shaking and shaking and shaking whipping cream in a mason jar.

Then they worked on spreading the butter on their bread by themselves.

Our few books.

I pulled up a "How to draw a cow" on the internet and Malia followed it and drew this cow.
