Pops' Birthday at the Zoo

For Pops' birthday celebration, the whole family headed down to Colorado Springs to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo last weekend.
The fam.

Last year, a great picture was taken of Pops and the grandkids. This year we might have waited until the end of a 5 hour day at the zoo to attempt the picture :(

Naomi was beyond tired and not willing to stay in the picture, but I love this squished in one.

More pictures later...

Swim cap

Naomi has graduated from just wearing the goggles to also requesting the older girls' swim cap be put on. This is an almost daily occurrence right now :)

For Easter, my mom sent matching dresses for the girls again. We went to our usual Saturday night service and then wore the dresses all day Sunday too.

On Saturday before church, Naomi was not interested in getting her picture taken.

Sunday morning we did an egg hunt (they were filled with puzzle pieces)...

... and a scavenger hunt for the What's in the Bible DVDs.

 Sisters on Easter.

Family picture.

On Sunday, Naomi was also not interested in getting her picture taken :) She just wanted to go play downstairs at Emmie and Pop's house.

Also here was our Easter sensory bin that we played with throughout the week. The split peas make a mess, but the kids loved playing with them.

Weekend Hikes

Andrew had Good Friday off, so we met up with Chris, Des and Jonathan (Chris's bro) for a hike.

M, D and D hiding from us.

At the end of our mile loop.

The crew heading back up to the car.

The next day our 5 family went to a nature preserve not to far from home. We ended up hiking 2.1 miles which is a new farthest for the girls.

Davey checking things out with the binoculars.

On both hikes, Naomi was surprisingly content in the hiking backpack, but she did get out and walk some too. The first picture shows you how she feels about dirt on her hands and the second how she insists on carrying whatever snack we have.

I love these pictures of Malia racing with Naomi.

Between the 2 hikes we saw mallard ducks, a deer, a muskrat, a turtle, an assortment of birds and a unicyclist.

Happy Little House

I have been meaning to do an art lesson for weeks now. I finally got around to it last week and it was a hit. Both girls drew Happy Little Houses.

 Davey's was in spring.

 Malia's was in summer.

I loved watching their paintings develop and how different the final pieces were.

Naomi's Fashion

Naomi is very opinionated about what she wears. We have daily battles while getting dressed, putting on shoes, jackets, etc. The other day, I said yes to all of her choices and the resulting outfit put a smile on my face.

Oh, and I should mention that her favorite outdoor accessory is her helmet. It doesn't matter what we are doing, if we are outside, she wants it on.

Easter Egg Hunt

We went to an Easter Egg Hunt at E and K's church last weekend. The kids really enjoyed all of the activities which included an inflatable obstacle course and a magic show.

Some of the egg collectors.

Naomi's first time hunting.

Potty Training?

Over the weekend, Naomi followed me into the bathroom and then somehow communicated (she  communicates very effectively without using many words) that she wanted to sit on the toliet. I took off her diaper, set her on there, and she loved it. She loved it so much that she sat there for about 30 minutes! We asked her every couple of minutes if she wanted to get off and she kept saying no.

During that 30 minutes, she did actually go to the bathroom. I don't think we are anywhere close to potty training, but it was a great way to keep her entertained while we cleaned up the kitchen!

Magic Tree House

At the beginning of February, Alli brought us some Magic Tree House books to borrow. At that point,    we had read only the first one. We started reading and reading and reading. In 7 weeks, we read (or listened to) 50 of them! When we finished the final book (#51), I congratulated the girls on completing the series and Davey started crying because she was sad there weren't any more to read. Jack and Annie had become a part of our daily routine and we learned all sorts of interesting facts along the way.

Here are some of the 50 books we read and listened to. I discovered around book #20 that our library had both audiobooks and ebooks which made getting through them easier. Book #52 comes out in May and until then, the girls are enjoying relistening to some of their favorites.

Malia and Davey started swim lessons a few days ago. In preparation for our first class, I had to find goggles, swim caps etc. Davey and Naomi both wanted to wear the goggles around. Every time I would look at them, I would laugh. Hopefully these pictures make you laugh too.

The second picture is just a classic older sibling, big hug/strangle pose.

Naomi wore her goggles for almost an hour which included lunch time. By this time she had added a headband to her accessories too.

I also should note that Naomi is the queen of mixing foods... she like things in separate bowls but then combines them to make very unusual concoctions, (that for the most part she eats!)
