Memorial Day Hiking

On Memorial Day we set out early and headed into the foothills for a family hike. We joined another family from church and their three kids.

We saw an upside down rainbow.

Naomi enjoyed riding in the hiking backpack and even fell asleep in it on the way out. Here she is enjoying her freedom and exploring.

 Naomi and me.

Davey and Malia were impressive rock scramblers. It is fun to see their confidence and sense of adventure grow.

Naomi also got to climb on the rocks with Andrew's help.

The kids all hiked about 3 miles with some decent elevation gain. We were impressed.

Blue Eyes

The other day Davey had on a gray shirt that made her blue eyes pop and I got these sweet pictures of her.

Fancy Nancy Party

Malia and Davey went to a Fancy Nancy birthday party over the weekend.

Here they are all dressed up (and with matching goofy smiles).

Naomi joined the girls for a picture. I love her face.

Last day of kindergarten

Malia had her last day of school on Monday and it was a field day. They encouraged parents and younger siblings to stay, so Davey and I joined the fun. It was a little different than the field day's I remember as a kid, but it was filled with fun activities and the girls really enjoyed it.

There was an inflatable obstacle course...

... face painting and cup stacking.

The girls were excited to try cotton candy for the first time (I didn't even realize that I had been depriving them!)

This inflatable was called the Wrecking Ball. It was crazy and of course the kids loved it.

These giant hamster balls were huge. Reviews after riding in them were mixed (I think the bigger kids liked them more).

Georgia O'Keeffe Flowers

Our last art project of the year (from Atelier Art) was to use crayons to draw the outline of a flower and then to paint it with watercolors. The instructor used Georgia O'Keeffe's flower paintings as the inspiration.

The girls really enjoyed this project, especially Malia who made a second painting.

4.5 years

Davey turned 4 1/2 a couple of weeks ago. I tried to make it a fun day (which was a little hard because we were all recovering from bad colds)

 My 4 1/2 year old.

I picked up this birdhouse decorating kit after Easter and the girls enjoyed decorating it (probably because they ate as much candy as they decorated with!)

Not cooperating when I asked them to smile.

In just a few weeks this one will be 6 1/2. Crazy!

Naomi has been building lots of towers recently. She is so patient and surprisingly not frustrated when they topple over. I love watching her work!

May Snow

On Mother's Day the temperature started dropping and into Monday we got a decent amount of snow.  After we dropped Malia off at school yesterday, we came him and I snapped a few pictures of the younger girls.

 I love Davey's faces.

Naomi was on a mission with the broom and would have stayed outside all day if I let her (and if I had dressed her warmer).

Davey Date

Long story, but recently it came to my attention via some conversations with my precious Davey that she wanted/needed some scheduled one on one time with me (with our schedules, I more naturally get one on one time with Malia and Naomi).

So last weekend we set off on a date morning. It was fantastic. For both of us. And we decided that it needs to be a monthly thing that we do.

Our date consisted of hanging out at our local donut shop while eating, doing a reading lesson and playing Bingo. We stopped on the way home at the grocery store to grab something and she hinted, in her ever so subtle style, that she wanted the date to continue, so we stopped at a playground on our way home. She was so, so happy afterwards. Maybe her love language is quality time (and donuts).

My sweetie. Don't you love how she did her hair?

Zoo Rides

Last zoo post.
While there, the kids got to do some extra activities.

Its a shame this is so dark, but Naomi was loving this kayak.

The older cousins got to ride a horse. Malia has really been wanting to ride a horse (she also wants to own one!), so it was especially exciting for her.

They all enjoyed the carousel too. Initially Naomi was really upset that she couldn't have the horse that Davey had, but as soon as the ride started moving, she was loving her first carousel ride.

One of the unique things about the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is that you can feed their giraffes. It was such a fun experience to be that close to these beautiful, long tongued creatures!

I also love this picture. That is a massive grizzly bear sleeping just feet behind the girls.
