Paddleboard Riding

Random, but true, we are the owners of an inflatable paddleboard. We took it to our local reservoir last weekend and let the kids and cousins play on it.
Davey played the part of a surfer girl and spent the most time standing.

Malia tried to stand a little...

... and Tess was just working on her tan!

Naomi, who we are finding to be fearless in the water, fell off once, head first into very chilly water. Her reaction? Didn't cry a bit. Asked for more!

We got these little tubes of bubbles at VBS and Naomi has been a big fan. Here she was outside last week blowing bubbles.

Family VBS

Our church does a Family Vacation Bible School. This was our first year attending and we really enjoyed it. Andrew, Malia, Davey and I moved from group time to games to mission time to crafts to family time throughout the night, while Naomi hung out with other kiddos in the nursery.

One night we had to wrap a member of our group like a present. (Our team got awarded 3rd place.)

 One of our crafts.

Each of the 5 nights, there was a storyteller. Andrew got called the night before the final night by our friend Paco, who asked if he would help tell the final story. Andrew mostly narrated while Paco acted (very dramatically) - the kids loved it.

Another highlight was the girls joining other kids on the stage at the end and singing the VBS songs. Here they are in full motion glory!

Princess Sighting

A few days ago, Andrew was returning from a business trip and was delayed (for 8 hours!) In order to occupy time waiting for him, the girls and I went up to our local shopping area that was having a Kidfest. Upon arriving, the wind started to blow really hard, so we ended up just ducking into a store and hanging out there for awhile. On our way back to the car, we noticed that the weather had scared off hundreds of visitors and dozens of venders. All that remained were a group of superheros and some princesses.

Despite it still being really windy and the dark clouds above, we went over so the girls could meet the group of princesses (they were less than interested in the superheros). It definitely was the highlight of our night.

 Chatting with Elsa.

Denver Half Century

Last weekend, Alli, Kendal, Morgan (Kendal's sister) and I rode in the Denver Half Century. Most people would think of a half century ride as 50 miles, but because of some strong hail storms a few weeks ago that damaged roads, they redid the race route and we got a bonus 7 miles.

It was a fantastic day. The weather was absolutely beautiful and it was so fun to do it with these ladies.

 Morgan, me, Kendal and Alli

At about mile 9, Morgan got a flat tire. God sent us Craig, a guy walking the street, who happened to know how to change a bike tube. Outside of that and me having a minor fall, the ride went smooth which is kind of amazing considering Alli is halfway through a pregnancy and Morgan came to the race straight from working through the night.

Already excited about next years ride!

Garage Sale Goodies

For the past month, I have been hitting up some of my favorite neighborhood garage sales and finding some great deals.

I have tons of clothing for Naomi and Davey, but I was looking for some bigger clothes for Malia to grow into. Last weekend, I hit a jackpot.

Almost 40 items for $16! Nice dresses, shirts, jeans, jackets, etc. All in great condition, great brands (Gymboree, Children's Place, REI, Old Navy, etc) and in the sized I needed. So great!

In previous sales, I had found a few things including 4 pair of shoes, a fleece hoodie, a dress and a shirt. I spent $9 on all of that.

So for $25, Malia has some really great clothes (which is crazy because so many of those single items would have cost $25 or more if I bought them at the store.)

Naomi was in the room when I was taking those pictures and we snapped this selfie (I love how serious she is). She is sporting her favorite garage sale find so far - a $.50 pair of goggles of her own (she calls them her "eyes").

Splash Park

Last week we went to a nearby splash park. It was Naomi's first experience walking at a splash park (last summer she was still crawling) and she loved it. Malia and Davey were bolder than last year and enjoyed it as well. And this mama loved it because it is so much less stressful than 3 kids in a pool.

Field Museum

Last week we were in Chicago for a family wedding. We stayed a few extra days in town to hang out and explore. One day we ventured downtown with the girls to the Field Museum. We loved it.

Davey and Malia with Sue the T-rex.

Naomi enjoying some bugs in a sand table.

There was a sweet kid zone in the bottom floor and we practically had the place to ourselves.

Malia really enjoyed the pueblo house and the fake corn that you could pick, cook and stack.

Davey and Naomi exploring instruments from around the world.

Davey digging up dinosaur bones while Naomi and Malia do crayon rubbings in the background.

Naomi loves to close doors right now so she loved opening and closing the doors on this wall of artifacts.

Glad that we got to show the girls a bit of the Windy City.

I love the faces in this close up :)

This sculpture park was on our walk to the car. Naomi looked at it and said "butts". Fairly accurate and very funny.

Davey's Preschool

At the end of May, Davey finished up her preschool year. I am so thankful for the year she had and all that she learned.

 With her teacher, Miss Kari.

The kids showed us their letter sound motions (and made some pretty funny faces in the process). I know the foundations of phonics she got will benefit me in the coming years as we start tackling reading.
