Wild Animal Sanctuary

This past week we went to the Wild Animal Sanctuary with some families from Malia's school. It is a place that takes in large carnivores who have been raised in captivity and cannot be released into the wild (It is amazing how many people think lions, tigers and bears make good pets!)

Here are some of the new tigers who are getting used to be around others before they are relocated to a bigger tiger area.

The sanctuary is set up so you walk above the animals to observe them. Here are the girls on the walkway.

Looking down at a sleeping bear.

This is a grizzly habitat closeup...

... and here is the wider shot of the big area the grizzly has to live in.

When I asked Malia and Davey if they had learned anything they said yes that having big animals as pets is not a good idea :)

The drive out was gorgeous and included mile long sunflower fields. Even though it was windy and threatening a storm on the way home, I made these two get out of the car for a picture.

We recently got a new curling iron in our house. I spent Friday afternoon curling the girls hair (which was a first). It made me realize how much hair they both have!

First Day of School

Last Monday was the first day of school for Malia with her Options program. It started with a hour of announcements and introductions; Malia sat with 3 of her buddies from last year and talked the whole time! She will take Language Arts, Science, Music, Art and Physical Education. She is most excited about PE.

 1st grader

Naomi wanted to jump in a picture.

This year Davey will be joining her cousin Graham in Emmie's Pre-K program!

Andrew's mom is going to have these two once a week to help Kendal and I in a transitional year. On their first day, they went on a hike and saw a coyote. I am excited to see the relationships grow between these three and very grateful that Davey has a special thing since she misses the cutoff for kindergarten by 5 weeks.

First it was Baby Signing Time and now it is Psalty the Singing Songbook. Naomi's favorite DVDs that she wants to watch over and over again.

Andrew and I found Psalty in a bookshop in India and it may be the best 300 rupees we have ever spent! Recently she hasn't just been watching but also participating in the songs actions. Here she is praising with Psalty earlier today.

Note on her outfit... we have finally found a few shirts/dresses that she doesn't fight us to wear and she often pairs them with interesting pants like these strawberry ones :)

Chihuly at the Botanical Gardens

Earlier this week there was a free day at our Botanical Gardens. They currently have art by Chihuly featured throughout, so we went with the cousins to check it out. The weather was perfect and we didn't lose any of our kids in the winding mazes of gardens, so the night was a success :)

Last weekend we took Malia and Davey to Lakeside Amusement Park.

Our first ride was the ferris wheel.

 Andrew and Davey flying.

Davey and Malia on the kiddie roller coaster.

 Enjoying the Frog Hopper.

They have lots of classic fair/amusement park rides like the a Carousel, the Matterhorn, the Spider and the Tilt a Whirl. After riding on the Spider with Davey, I was motion sick and had to sit the next few rides out... makes me feel old!

One more time on the ferris wheel before we left.

Slip and Slide

Andrew's nostalgia for slipping and sliding in his youth, led him to buy one for the girls. Let's just say, it did not live up to the dreams of his past as the girls did not get the concept of running and diving onto the wet slide :)

It made us laugh a lot and that is worth something right?!?

Pillow Party

On the night of Naomi's birthday we also coordinated the pick up of our hide a bed. It was my parents couch that has moved 5 times with us in the last decade. We didn't really use it but it still took me about 2 years to get rid of it because I was sentimentally attached.

Anyway, before someone came and picked it up, we had one last pillow party. It actually might have been Naomi's first real pillow party and she loved it.

BFF Tea Party

My girls love to have tea parties at Emmie's house. Last week, Emmie hosted both girls with their BFFs (Best Friends Forever) and their dolls. The younger girls had a morning tea time and the older girls an afternoon tea time :)

Naomi's Birthday

On her actual birthday Naomi was the last one to wake up, so the rest of us were able to go in and sing Happy Birthday first thing.

Morning. Showing how old she is with her fingers (she consistently shows all 5 fingers and says 2).

Riding her new bike and wearing her new "eyes" (aka sunglasses).

Loving sisters.

Naomi's favorite place right now might be the pool, so we went over Andrew's lunch on her birthday (benefits of working from home!)

 Our little back floater.

Feeding her new baby a bottle.

And finishing the night off with some "cream".
