Naomi in the snow

Naomi did not spend a lot of time in the snow last year because she HATED getting her snow gear on. We had snow about 2 weeks ago and I took her down to the mailbox on a sled. She still was not a fan of her snow pants but once she was outside, she loved it.

She even wanted to get bikes and toys out and go for a ride.

Waiting for Freddy/Abe

Earlier this month, while anticipating the arrival of Freddy (what we all called Alli and Chris's baby in the womb), we headed down to the museum with Alli and Des.
Cousin astronauts.

Naomi the scuba diver.

Davey spent a long time building this castle.

Freddy turned out to be Abe Cargo Horst who was born on November 9th making him Davey's birthday twin. She couldn't be happier to share her birthday and we are happy to have another sweet baby boy in the family.

Operation Christmas Child Boxes

A couple weeks ago, we hosted an Operation Christmas Child party at our house for some of our friends. We watched some videos to help the girls understand the concept better (this was my favorite), spread out all of our goodies and let them pack. We also had the girls color a printable  sheet from the Samaritan's Purse website and took time to pray over our boxes at the end. Davey prayed that the boxes would help show kids who Jesus was and this mother's heart was so happy because she gets why we do them (as opposed to a few days before we packed when she just wanted to keep all of the toys and goodies for herself!)

This is national collection week so there is still time to get involved. I highly recommend it.

Davey's 5th Birthday

Over the weekend, we celebrated Davey's 5th Birthday. We went with a mermaid/under the sea theme (thanks to the Barbie Pearl Princess dress that we found months ago on clearance.)

As the girls get older, they have more and more opinions about their parties. They also want to help more. They helped me make and decorate the cupcakes.

 Davey the mermaid

We had a late morning party and this was our food spread. Simple and easy, yet mostly themed.

Our peak number was 12 girls (9 guests plus our 3). And yet it was some of the calmest, most peaceful 2 hours our house has seen in recent days. The girls played so well which was great because I didn't have a ton of structured activities for them.

 Davey with her BFF.

I love how the girls have no concept of personal space when present are opened.

Sweet smile while being sung to.

We are crazy about this girl and so happy she is a part of our family.

Haircut and Science Experiments

Last week Davey chopped her hair. The conversation started in the beginning of October when she told me she thought she needed a haircut. We talked about how she had enough to donate to Locks of Love, which provides wigs for kids with cancer and she decided to do it. We decided that we should wait until after Halloween so she could have long braids with her Ana costume.

I kept waiting for her to change her mind but she didn't. Even when her friends told her the night before that they liked her hair long, she didn't waiver!

 It was pretty long!

 10 inches off

We went to Sweet and Sassy which is a salon geared towards young girls. They are so nice there. They put glitter in Malia and Naomi's hair and on their faces while they waited and let them walk the runway!

And here is the new Davey.

And straight from haircuts, we went to Science Saturday at a nearby toy store where the girls learned about chlorophyl and made popcorn dance with vinegar and baking soda.

Harry the Dirty Dog

Last week we went to see Harry the Dirty Dog with the older cousins. It was such a fun performance - both kids and adults enjoyed it. While these pictures are blurry, they represent some cousin love.

The night before Halloween, Malia reminded me that we still had to carve our pumpkin. We had some errands to do that night, so we quickly pulled out the seeds and cut a face in it. Not fine art but they were happy.

I wasn't intending on buying new costumes for this year but then Malia chose to spend some money she has been earning so that she could be Elsa. That led to Davey getting an Ana costume for an early birthday present (because she has no money). Naomi helped keep the Halloween budget down by picking a Spiderman costume that we already had!

Butterfly for a day

When taking inventory of Halloween costume options for Naomi, I was excited to come across this pink butterfly that Malia wore. It is all pink so I thought she would love it. And she did for about 24 hours earlier in the week of Halloween. She wore it to story time at the library and wanted to sleep in it. But then she got distracted by other costumes.

Here she is exploring our Halloween sensory bin.

Lego, Squinky, Pony World

During one of the days that Naomi really wasn't feeling good, Malia and Davey disappeared upstairs to our loft and combined legos with squinkies and ponies. I kind of makes me smile to see their creations.

Our neighbors moved a couple of weeks ago and while packing up offered us a few things including their trampoline. I was so excited because I have wanted one for about 20 years!

We have been having so much fun on it. We feel like it has added an additional room to our house.

Sleep Issues

Ever since Davey gave up her nap, we have been fighting to balance out her sleep. She just doesn't like to sleep in (which baffles me!). The last 2-3 weeks she has developed a new habit of waking me up in the middle of the night and then coming in around 5:30 and waking Andrew up. Needless to say, she is a little sleep deprived (and so are we).

Last week, she said she was tired around 4:15 p.m. so I told her to go in the front room and lay down. A few minutes later, I checked on her and she was asleep.

 And I mean out cold.

Not sure why these two are giving me the stink eye...

We talked around her, played around her, and she just kept sleeping.

Another day, I was out running errands and Davey fell asleep on a short drive (Less than 10 minutes). Apparently her popcorn bag looked like a good pillow!

Naomi recently got hand, foot and mouth. She is the first of my three to ever have it. We were thankful that her's was a minor case, but it still left us isolated for a week while we tried to determine if the other girls had gotten it and to make sure Naomi wasn't contagious. I am grateful for the timing because we didn't have to miss out on much, but I was very stir crazy by the end.

During this time Naomi developed a deep love for costumes. She wore this froggy one for a few days straight and on this day decided to add a few accessories.
