Merry Christmas (and a Happy New Year!)

We had a great Christmas. This was my attempt to get a picture of our four dressed up on Christmas Eve (Drew is purposely turned away from the camera because we still are not supposed to post pictures of his sweet face).

It's hard to believe this is the last day of 2015. As I have reflected on this past year this week, I am blown away at how much our lives have changed. We added a boy to our family and moved all within 5 months! We have experienced so many sweet moments with our kids, but have also had the hardships of transition, the unknown, and being completely outnumbered! Our faith has been strengthened as we have been stretched and challenged and we are grateful for that.

I didn't get around to send out any Christmas cards this year. Please forgive me and know that I appreciate any of you who love our family and actually still read this blog!

CMA Graduation

For the last 3.5 years, Malia has been attending Children's Music Academy. She has learned a ton of music theory and piano during her time. The week before Christmas, she graduated from the program. It is a bittersweet ending. We are glad to have our Tuesday nights back, but I will miss my weekly one on one time with this precious girl.

With her teacher Miss Amanda.

With Pops and Emmie.

Puzzle Day

A couple of weeks ago we got a really good snow. All of the schools in the area were closed so we decided to close our homeschool too :) Malia and Davey ended up spending all day doing puzzles while listening to some audiobooks while I spent all day trying to keep Drew away from that area!

Davey's Lost Tooth

Davey's tooth has been loose for weeks. We have had almost everyone in the family try and pull that tooth out but it would not budge. Finally the week before Christmas she bumped her mouth with her own knee and knocked it out.

It was cute to see her process this. At first she was scared for it to come out because we were at Starbucks and she was afraid we would lose the tooth before we got home and she would have to write a note to the tooth fairy. Then she was kind of in shock when it came out, but it quickly all turned to happiness that she finally lost it.

And as you can see, her adult tooth had already grown in behind the baby tooth so she doesn't have much of a gap.

Christmas Bin and Snowflake Tortillas

The Christmas season with Naomi was very fun this year. She was delighted with so many things.

I redid our Christmas sensory box this year... I simplified the contents and put them in a basket.

This is Naomi's store that she set up. Pretty much everything was 5 bucks. We practiced a lot of counting in her store. She is getting better and better at counting to 10.

Naomi loves tortillas but recently did not like that one I gave her had a hole in it. So when the last tortilla in the bag had a hole, I turned into a snowflake.

Donut Pants

In a recent bag of hand me downs (love hand me downs), we were given a pair of donut pants. Needless to say, Davey has been loving them! She recently came up with this combo and being the good mom that I am (?), I let her wear it out in public.

Polar Express

Last week we went on the Polar Express with all of the Colorado cousins. It is based on the book and features a real train ride at the end.

Naomi enjoying her candy cane.

Cousin love.

Santa handing out bells to the kids.

Our packed side of the train.

Cousins (minus 2 babies) with Santa.

Chocolate Crinkles

I grew up making Betty Crocker's Chocolate Crinkles around Christmas time. By the 9th of December, my girls and I were on our second round of making them! They are really good at making balls of dough and rolling them in powdered sugar... I hardly help with this step anymore.

Life-sized Pictures

Earlier this month, Davey asked if we could trace the bodies so the girls could color them. This is an easy and really fun activity (that we do at least once a year). The older girls helped Naomi with hers.

Fancy Davey

Davey was feeling rather fancy last week. She pretty much wore this ensemble all day.

Preschool Activities

Since Naomi is approaching 3 1/2, I am trying to be more intentional about doing some preschool activities with her. I find it is a great way for us to have intentional one on one time together, which we both love.

Here we got out the color mat I made years ago. I have so many great resources in my house and it is fun to bring them out again.

One afternoon we built with Wedgits, counted, talked shapes and colors and tried to match up letters. Right now she can only recognize "N" (which she calls "up down up" not "N") so we have lots of work to do on the alphabet but she is really solid with colors and has made a lot of progress this week with counting to 10!

Love this girl!

Christmas Tree

The Saturday after Thanksgiving, we headed up to the foothills to chop down our Christmas tree.

The kids are getting more and more helpful every year!

Birthday twins. Love these faces!

This year we were able to get a much bigger tree. This meant that we had to use the step ladder and help from Daddy to put ornaments up high.

Cousin Sleepover

Thanksgiving weekend, Andrew and I decided to host our first cousin sleepover. These kids love to hang out and did a great job. Only 2 of the 7 kids were up in the middle of the night and they both belonged to us!

Here they are ready to watch Inside Out downstairs.

Thanksgiving Performance

The week of Thanksgiving, Davey's class put on a Thanksgiving performance. Here is my cute little pilgrim (pilgrim's had bright pink, light-up, rain boots right?)

Recipe Tester

Andrew recently started working with Rachel Schultz who is in the process of publishing a cookbook. One of the perks of this is that we got to recipe test for her. Below is a baked oatmeal with lots of yummy extras in it that Andrew and Naomi made. We all loved it!

Kinetic Sand

One benefit of moving is all of your toys get packed up and then s-l-o-w-l-y unpacked. We are still unpacking boxes and finding treasures like our kinetic sand. One day she spent lots of time making cupcakes.

Snow

We missed the first snowfall of the season because we were out of town. But a good snowfall came a week or so after getting home and the girls were thrilled.

 Jumping off the snow pile.

 Eating her favorite food.

Loving being outside.

Balloon Monkey

Sometimes you go to Chick-fil-a and their gift card reader is down so you get free chicken sandwiches, free milkshakes and a balloon monkey climbing a banana tree. As if we needed another reason to love that place!

Early Christmas and Cousins

We celebrated Christmas early with my family which the girls all loved.

And we failed to get a picture of all 6 cousins together but we did get a couple with Estelle (sweet Harriet was fighting a double ear infection when we were together).

At the mall playground after their daddies took them to ice cream.

And the two, three year olds!

Naomi's Friends

While in Ohio, we got to see some of our dearest friends, the Lile's. While there Naomi made some friends including...

 ... Caspian, the bunny...

... and Rebka who was kind enough to be Naomi's bud for the day.

Two front teeth

Even though we do not get to see extended family as often as we would like, our kids have developed some pretty sweet friendships with cousins kids... they play so well together and seem to just pick up where they left off last time they were together.

While playing one night, Malia and Kristin ran downstairs in a bit of a panic. Kristin had accidentally bumped Malia in the mouth and knocked out her other front tooth. I was so excited, because the tooth had been hanging on by a thread for awhile! And of course I took a picture of them to remember this historic moment!

Davey's 6th

While in Ohio, we celebrated Davey's 6th birthday. Andrew and I were able to take her out for a donut date, which was really special (and something we might start with each kid on their birthday... a date that is... but donut dates for all wouldn't be so bad).

So thankful for this one!
