Box Fun

I recently ordered something that came in a big box. We kept the big box around for a few days and let the girls play with it. It was so funny to watch what they did with it.

One morning all three girls were entertained for a good while just hiding each other in there. They would tell me that I had a special gift, I would open the box and then they would scream and laugh. Variations included different combination of girls inside and the addition of blankets and pillows.

Andrew got to open a special gift when he came up for lunch that day.

All 3 were cozy inside.

Solar System

Malia's last unit of Science this year focuses on the solar system. While reading through her material one day, I got out my solar system box and let the girls explore it.

Davey made up her own solar system.

And Malia enjoyed trying to put the planets in order by memory.

Charlotte's Web

Last week I took Malia and Davey to see Charlotte's Web. It was a really fun show at a great little theater.

Afterwards we explored the park outside which included a giant, sprawling serpent that the girls enjoyed climbing on. Here they are (with a random girl) at the top/head.

Lollipop Park

Last week I took the girls to Lollipop Park (a local indoor amusement park for little kids). Naomi had never been, so it was fun to watch her experience the rides. She said the train and the teacups were her  favorite. I took some bad, blurry pictures on my phone...

These couple I took at the very end as we were leaving are my favorite though. Good old distorting mirrors.

I started conditioning Malia about 2 years ago. Sometimes I would offer her a treat or a quarter to brush my hair while I read to her. Now she just does it.

Her latest thing is not just brushing it, but also styling my hair. And she likes to take pictures of my dos so that she can show them to me (and walk me through the steps of what she did.)

I have been tempted to cut my hair short again, but Malia's consistent hairstyling keeps persuading me to keep it long.

Options Art

We love the Options program that Malia is a part of. She gets Language Arts, Science, Music, Physical Education and Art while she is there. Here are a few of the art projects she has brought home this year.

I love that she gets to paint and create and I don't have to clean it up!

These were family trees.

And there is something about this fox I just love.

Face Paint

We have had this set of face paint crayons in our junk drawer for years. Periodically the girls find them and ask to use them. Most of the time I say no. One day last week I said yes. It was hysterical. Here's what they did with them.

 Tiger/leopard nose and whiskers

Minnie Mouse nose and ears (she has a Minnie Mouse dress on)

Angel Halo

Note: I was a little paranoid after they had it on that it would get smeared all over the carpet, pillows etc. which reminded me why my default it to say no.

Heart Class

We have a local toy store that does Science Saturday classes. Last month, Malia and Davey participated in one about hearts which included the dissection of a sheep's heart.

 Malia was definitely into it...

... and Davey gave it a couple of pokes.

A few days ago, someone was telling a gory story about a wound and Davey was shuddering... I think she inherited her weak stomach for all things medical (especially blood) from me.

Tea Set Painting

The girls got cute kits for Christmas for painting their own tea sets. After two months of asking when we could do it, I finally carved out time for them to do it.

They loved it and played with the painted sets non-stop for a week afterwards. Then I notice the paint coming off and was so bummed. Not quite sure what the fate of these set is...

Last week we went bowling with some friends from Malia's school. (Malia went to a bowling birthday party when she was 3, but we hadn't been since.)

The girls were big fans. Thanks to bumpers and a ramp to slide the ball down, Davey won with a score of 94 :)

We got a canister vacuum to review and my favorite part about it is that it is easier for the girls to maneuver than an upright. Naomi wanted to vacuum and probably got some pretty good crumbs under that oven! (She is wearing her beloved "nastics" aka gymnastics leotard).

Davey and Naomi have been buddies this week (which is not the norm). They have been playing and laughing and making lots of messes together. It has been really sweet.

Here they are crammed in a doll crib together.

Over the weekend we had the opportunity to spend a night in Copper and put the girls on skis. This was Naomi's first time and she was a champ. It was only Malia and Davey's second time but they did great as well.

Taking her first magic carpet ride like a pro.

Pops was great at catching the girls (who haven't learned to stop yet!)

Emmie is a patient and helpful teacher.

Taking a break midday and sipping on some hot chocolate. (She loved her ski boots with stars on them and walked surprisingly well in them).

In the afternoon we moved off the magic carpet to a bigger hill complete with a chair lift. After watching Davey and Malia go up and down a couple times, Naomi was ready for her turn (which she loved). This is her and Andrew on the lift.

And here is a video of Naomi skiing down. There is just something cute (and ridiculous) about a 2 year old on skis.
