Front Tooth

After being loose for months, Malia finally lost her front tooth last week. She is almost 8 and has only lost 3 so far (she likes to hold onto them).

3 of 3 were lost on a Monday
2 of 3 were lost at school at lunch
2 of 3 were swallowed

Little Helper

Naomi has been really wanting to be our helper recently. Unfortunately a lot of the tasks that she wants to do are not appropriate for her (i.e. give Drew a bath after he has pooped out). And when we remind her that the most helpful thing she can do is obeys right away, it seems to fall on deaf ears :)

Finding tasks that she wants to do that are actually helpful (or not hurtful) is hard to do. Last week I asked her if she wanted to wash out Drew's bottles and it was a hit. She loves anything to do with water (which might be why our water bill was so high last month!)

Copper Mountain - Naomi

This one is such a character. She does not like to smile normally for the camera. So I got lots of different expressions from her.

Copper Mountain - Davey

And here is Davey.

My almost 6 year old.

We caught the end of fall colors.

Showing off her new free waterbottle set.

And another (2/3) group picture. These are my people!

Copper Mountain - Malia

Two weekends ago, our family of 6 got the chance to go to Copper Mountain for the weekend. Life has felt really busy (and often overwhelming) recently, so it was good to get away and relax with those we cherish most.

While up there, I took some pictures of the kids. Some of them were more cooperative than others :)

Here are a few of Malia.

See the front tooth that is displaced? It may have finally fallen out a couple days later!

Her idea for this picture, not mine :)

And one of Andrew and the girls adventuring.

Leaves and Trees

My fellow homeschooling mom and good friend, Kelly, and I met last week at a local gardens. She planned some teaching for the kids about leaves and trees. It was the perfect day to explore and see science in action.

Our crew. 8 kids. 7 girls and 1 boy (sorry Drew).

Naomi in her Michael Jackson-like jacket and inside-out leggings (self-dressing at its best!)

The older girls drew a picture of a plant they liked.

The oldest girls reading about photosynthesis and chlorophyll (borophyll anyone?)

And this one (whose face I still cannot show you) loved rolling around and crawling (yes crawling) in the grass and playing with leaves.

Office Painting

Last weekend our big project was painting Andrew's office. It is the first room we have painted and it makes us really excited to get more color in our new home. Naomi wanted to help so bad, so Andrew pulled the girls in and let them paint letters on the wall.

Corn Maze

Last week we went on a field trip to a farm with the girls school group. The girls really enjoyed running around through a corn maze while we were there.

"Douglas"

When we left Alli and Chris's house, we all borrowed something. Naomi borrowed Des's stuffed dog, Scout, whom she renamed Douglas, in honor of her lizard roommate. Douglas wore baba, (her sleepsack/blanket) for a few weeks and went everywhere with her. At about the third week, Des was coming to our house, and I mentioned that maybe we should give Douglas back. She was surprisingly willing. I asked to take a picture of them together before we returned Douglas and this is what I got.

Painting

I have been trying to add more toddler focused activities into our week lately. Partly to combat behavioral issues, partly because she loves it (and usually the big girls don't mind the activities either), partly because it is good for her development and partly because I have materials for so many toddler activities already in my house.

Last week we did these little painting activity where you just wet the paint at the bottom of the page. Naomi loved it.
