Carving Pumpkins

We got a lot of pumpkins this year when we went to Miller's Farms. Andrew and the girls spent a lot of time scooping out seeds and carving.

The girls also painted some of the smaller pumpkins, so we had quite a festive porch.

Halloween

The kids all dressed up in Star Wars costumes this year.

Yoda, Rey, Chewbacca and Darth Vader

Drew/Yoda was so fun this year!

The girls enjoyed sorting and exchanging candy afterwards.

Morning Adventures

Since it is not easy to get school done while Drew is awake, I have been trying to get out in the mornings on nice days to adventure. A couple of weeks ago we went to a nearby creek that we had never explored before. I am amazed that we have lived here for 9 years and we are still finding new things to check out.

We randomly ran into some friends we hadn't seen much recently. While walking them back to their car (that was parked in a different area than ours), we found a maze like one we had just read about... they used to build these to entertain kids during harvest time.

Castlewood Canyon

Last month we went back to Castlewood Canyon to explore. Although there were some bad attitudes initially, once we hit the creek everything changed and we ended up having a great time. The kids all enjoyed scrambling on the rocks and were not bothered at all by the icy cold water.

We hiked into that waterfall...

... and spotted a lizard on the sedimentary rock on the way in.

Garden of the Gods

Last month we met my friend Molly at Garden of the Gods. I forget how close and beautiful this place is.

Drew's cheese face.

Malia and Davey loved climbing on the rocks.

Naomi was a tree climber.

Puffy Eye

A few weeks ago Naomi got a mosquito bite on her eye and it gave her the cutest puffy eye.

Hot Spring

While explaining our trip home, a friend mentioned that they had just been to a hot spring around the area we were going. It turns out it was exactly on the backroad we were planning on driving on after our peach picking. You literally just pull off to the side of a little road and find groups of people chilling in pools made of rocks that are heated by a few natural hot springs. It was really fantastic.

Davey is fearless in the water. The river water was frigid but that didn't stop her from getting all of the way in with Andrew. The rest of the crew was content to stay in the naturally heated smaller pools until Naomi swam in the cold water just before we left.

This is how small the trickle of hot water was, but it was so hot!

Rifle State Park Falls

When we were planning our return trip, I got a piece of junk mail that advertised local businesses but that also had an article about waterfalls in Colorado. I read the article and discovered that we had a triple waterfall right along our path home.

I think this was our only family picture of the 10 days away. Quite the backdrop huh?

There were some caves to explore around the sides of the falls. The kids enjoyed that and we were thankful for the headlamps that they just received from Emmie and Pops.

Peach Picking

Another thing we did on our way home was peach picking on the western slopes of the Rockies. We found a great spot in Paonia, CO. I wondered if we were too late in the season to pick, but they had a whole section of the orchard still full of peaches. We picked two boxes and wanted to keep going but we had no more room in our car!

Arches National Park

We ended August with a Wolgemuth family vacation to Utah (pictures to come). Our 6 family drove and since we had extra time thanks to Labor Day we saw some sights as we traveled back home.

One place we drove through was Arches in Utah. It was beautiful (and scorching hot).

Berry Patch Farms

We went to Berry Patch Farms over 6 years ago to pick strawberries. I have struggled every year since to coordinate our schedule with their crop. But earlier this month, we made it back and got to pick both strawberries and raspberries.

And here is a picture of Davey from the first time we went 6 years earlier.
