Hot Spring

While explaining our trip home, a friend mentioned that they had just been to a hot spring around the area we were going. It turns out it was exactly on the backroad we were planning on driving on after our peach picking. You literally just pull off to the side of a little road and find groups of people chilling in pools made of rocks that are heated by a few natural hot springs. It was really fantastic.

Davey is fearless in the water. The river water was frigid but that didn't stop her from getting all of the way in with Andrew. The rest of the crew was content to stay in the naturally heated smaller pools until Naomi swam in the cold water just before we left.

This is how small the trickle of hot water was, but it was so hot!

Rifle State Park Falls

When we were planning our return trip, I got a piece of junk mail that advertised local businesses but that also had an article about waterfalls in Colorado. I read the article and discovered that we had a triple waterfall right along our path home.

I think this was our only family picture of the 10 days away. Quite the backdrop huh?

There were some caves to explore around the sides of the falls. The kids enjoyed that and we were thankful for the headlamps that they just received from Emmie and Pops.

Peach Picking

Another thing we did on our way home was peach picking on the western slopes of the Rockies. We found a great spot in Paonia, CO. I wondered if we were too late in the season to pick, but they had a whole section of the orchard still full of peaches. We picked two boxes and wanted to keep going but we had no more room in our car!

Arches National Park

We ended August with a Wolgemuth family vacation to Utah (pictures to come). Our 6 family drove and since we had extra time thanks to Labor Day we saw some sights as we traveled back home.

One place we drove through was Arches in Utah. It was beautiful (and scorching hot).

Berry Patch Farms

We went to Berry Patch Farms over 6 years ago to pick strawberries. I have struggled every year since to coordinate our schedule with their crop. But earlier this month, we made it back and got to pick both strawberries and raspberries.

And here is a picture of Davey from the first time we went 6 years earlier.

Back to School

Malia and Davey started their Options program a couple of Monday's ago. Hard to believe we have a 4th and 2nd grader in the house. We have slowly started school at home too, but I keep getting sidetracked by the beautiful weather and taking field trips.

4 kids in the pool

We have made some big progress this summer at the pool. One of the last times we went, all four kids were in the pool and I was not! They are growing up fast.

Bubble Mower

We got Drew this bubble mower for Easter and he loved it. But he didn't even know until recently that it blew bubbles! It was fun to show him what his lawnmower was capable of.

Riding the Reservoir

I have been wanting to ride our local reservoir with the kids for awhile. A couple of weeks ago, we set out to do it (with Drew in his new bike seat) but Naomi wasn't feeling good and so just Malia, Davey, and I did it. The ride is an 8 mile loop and we added an extra mile getting in and out. It was fun to push them and to do something I love with them.

Here they are taking a brief break around mile 4.

My 5 year old

Naomi turned 5 a few weeks ago. It was an exciting day. Her pool party got rained out but she had the best attitude about it and we just hosted it at our house.

Naomi loves Chewbacca and so she got lots of themed gifts...

Not pictured are two more Chewbacca t-shirts, Chewbacca socks and a Chewbacca stuffed animal. We did not even technically theme the party, but all of her guests just know she loves Chewie so!

New Bike Seat

Our older girls enjoyed riding in our Burley bike trailer when they were younger but when we tried to put Drew in it, he was not a fan. Recently we were offered a different kind of bike seat, and we were excited to try it out. Drew has been on several rides in it and loves it! It is so fun to be able to take family bike rides.

And don't worry, we have found another use for the Burley...

... it is for transporting flowers when we ride up to Lowes!

Roly Poly

Drew doesn't walk much... he runs. But there are a few things that will make him slow down... bugs do that. He loves to touch them and watch them crawl (and may squish them occasionally).

We recently got a kit of shrink-a-dinks. The girls really enjoyed coloring the pictures and then watching them shrink in the oven. It's a really weird, but cool process. Here they are with their final (small) pieces of art.

Rockies Game

We got some free tickets to a Rockies game earlier this summer. We had our two extra kids during that time so I encouraged Andrew to just take the girls while I stayed home with the littles. Unfortunately, that day Davey started feeling sick so she stayed home with me too, but Andrew, Malia and Naomi had a fun time at the game... and they even tracked down Dinger.

Painting with Pudding

One of Drew's task on his summer reading challenge from the library was to paint with pudding. He ended up painting more than the tray :)

Painted Mines

I did not have many things on my summer to-do list but going to the Painted Mines was one of them. We usually drive west towards the mountains for adventures... occasionally north or south... but never east. It was a really fun drive past farms and on dirt roads.

We recruited the whole CO Wolgemuth family to join us.

It was a very unique setting.

Exploring ant holes.

The three youngest boys... we are expecting a lot of trouble from this crew in the future.

This group is so fun to explore with.

At the end of the hike, a little lizard was found (and loved on).
