Crazy Hair Day

The girls did a VBS at our friends church last week and really enjoyed it. A few of the days were themed. Here they are on crazy hair day.

Chicken Sitting

Recently, one of Davey's best friends asked us to chicken sit for about a week. Our main responsibilities were to make sure they had food and to let them out of their coop for awhile each day. We really enjoyed going over to their house and taking friends along to visit.

Shaving Cream Letters

This year for our library's summer reading program, kids 5 and under are supposed to accomplish a list of activities. Most of the activities are fairly simple (go on a walk and count trees, let your child pick out a bedtime story...) but the one Naomi was excited about was making letters in the tub with shaving cream. We did this last week and she loved it (although I would say it is way to hard for kids her age to successfully press the shaving cream out and move it).

Fire Truck

In the last month I have found so much great stuff at garage sales. I have a list that I create all year of what we need and I try to shop from that. I definitely stray from the list because you never know what you will find... like a fire truck for $1 (when your son is in a fire truck loving stage).

Snot Rockets

We had colds go through our house the last couple of weeks. Drew is pretty good at getting his nose wiped (for a toddler), but he isn't great at blowing his nose yet. However, he has an amazing ability to sneeze out his boogers. While he had the cold, this was his face many times a day after a sneeze...

The Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, we went hiking. I did not take many pictures but I did snap this one of Naomi wearing her camo on camo... can you even see her in the tree?

I also took this one where we stopped and the kids just played in the forest.

RIP Chewbacca Fish

A few weeks ago, Andrew texted me and asked where Naomi's fish "Chewbacca" was. I did not really understand the question because of course Chewbacca was in her bowl. Upon careful examination I too concluded that indeed Chewbacca was not in her bowl. It took me a minute or two after that to spot Chewbacca dead on our stove. Apparently the poor fish jumped out and then flopped to her death.

We debated whether we should just replace it or if we even needed to mention it. In the end I thought honesty was the best policy. Namoi cried hard when she heard the news, but has done well with the loss. Just tonight, almost 3 weeks later, she asked me to tell the (funny) story about how I found Chewbacca dead.

Family Wedding

Last month, Malia traveled with Dan and Mary to a family wedding in South Carolina (there are perks to being the oldest grandchild!)

At the airport with Emmie.

With the bride and mother of the bride.

Hotel shenanigans.

Visiting the Billy Graham library in North Carolina on their way home.

Naomi was really into twinning last week. Here are two of the outfits she was able to match with other family members.

Sometimes you sneak out into the garage after a diaper change, put on your rainboots and try to ride your bike...

I was recently chasing Drew around our cul-de-sac and saw a worm. I picked it up with a stick but then he just grabbed it with his fingers. He was completely fascinated by it and showed it off to all of the other kids playing outside.

Last Snow?!?!

This is our ninth spring in Colorado and the first time that it has snowed after Mother's Day (on May 18!!). Several years it has snowed on Mother's Day, but usually you (and your plants) are safe after that.

It was a really wet snow, but there was enough on the trampoline that Naomi and Davey wanted to go play in it.

Cinderella Play

A few weeks ago, the girls and I got to go see a high school production of Cinderella with our friends. It was such a fun experience for all of us. The girls were so happy to meet Cinderella after the show.

DR Day 11

Day 11, was our final full day in country (we flew out early the next morning). We spent the morning packing up and swimming and then our family drove back to Santiago which is where we flew in and out of.

Final swim.

Lunch at our favorite waffle place before leaving Cabarete.

Drew spiked a fever on our last day which made him a little grumpy and sleepless. Thankfully those were his only symptoms and we made it home without any issues.

Leaving the Horst family (who were incredible hosts).

We arrived in the DR at night and had to make a two hour drive through the mountains in the dark. It was terrifying (especially since there are hardly any road signs, it was raining and we weren't used to DR roads yet). Driving that same road in the daylight, after Andrew had mastered DR driving was a delight. We could not get over the views. These pictures don't even begin to capture the beauty; it was stunning.

We stayed at a hotel right by the airport because our flight was early the next morning. We swam in the pool and reacquainted ourselves with warm showers, air conditioning, etc.

We had to grab dinner by ourselves that night and landed at KFC. Santiago is so much bigger than Cabarete and we were overwhelmed and tired with decisions so we went with familiar.

So that was our trip. It was pretty amazing. We are already dreaming of our next big trip.

DR Day 10

Sunrise from our balcony (Alli and Chris's house is to the left there).
We adventured into Puerto Plata to ride the Teleferico...

... which is a cable car up to the top of a mountain.

At the top they have a mini statue of Christ the Redeemer.

The fog rolled away while we were at the top and we got some fantastic views.

We got in a little beach time with the older kids while the littles napped.

DR Day 9

On Day 9, the rain subsided and we were able to go on our birthday outing for Alli.

Sweet Juni.

We hoped in a small boat and headed up the river with our trusty guide Wilson. The river was really full which made the ride extra... interesting!

We met birds...

... and tarantulas. We also saw alligators, crabs, turtles, and snakes.

More bird pictures.

The ride back to our van shows how the river empties into the ocean and the mountains beyond.

Our beloved van (with its senior picture pose).

That night we walked up and had pizza on the beach.
